Two Chesterfield youth champions were invited to meet the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown MP, and Labour's Education Secretary, Ed Balls MP, at the Labour Party Conference this week, in recognition of the outstanding contribution they have made to young people's services in Chesterfield.

Debbie Rayner, who is the assistant headteacher of Springwell Community School in Staveley and Lisa Kelly, who is the manager of Families First Childcare Co-operative in Birdholme, were nominated to receive the recognition by Toby Perkins, Labour's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Chesterfield.

Toby said: "I was delighted to recognise the commitment shown by Debbie and Lisa. The organisations that they lead and represent are great examples of what can be acheived when you combine Labour's financial investment with the commitment and excellence from all those people that work with young people."

On meeting the Prime Minister and Ed Balls, Debbie said: "It was a great privilege to represent such a great school especially as we are celebrating the schools's best ever results and I was proud to tell the Prime Minister and Ed Balls about all the hard working students and staff. I have invited Mr Balls to come to Springwell and see for himself what we do help each young person to reach their potential".

Lisa added: "It was a tremendous thrill to meet the Prime Minister backstage, and to tell him about the work we are doing at the Families First Childcare Co-operative, it was a thrill to be nominated and I think it reflects not just on me, but on the hard work of everyone at the Nursery."
